My entire life, I have been the nurturer among my friends and family. Creating a haven—a sanctuary where everyone feels welcomed and cherished—that is my thing. Little did I know that this innate quality would eventually shape my path and lead me to a career in real estate.
It was a pivotal moment when everything changed. On one morning in late November 2017, I woke up with this overwhelming feeling, a crystal-clear directive that I couldn't ignore: I was going to become a REALTOR®, and I was going to sell our house and buy our next one. I remember my immediate response: "No way, this can't be right."
I grappled with this directive for hours, feeling resistant to the idea. Did God really want me to do this? At the time, I had no interest in getting into real estate. But the revelation was so clear—it shook me to the core. That’s when I reached out to a client in the real estate business, seeking guidance despite my initial reluctance.
With the holidays coming up, it was unlikely I would get into a class before the New Year. However, there happened to be an intensive two-week real estate course that ended on December 23rd. I passed the class, and the instructor let us know we likely wouldn’t be able to take our official state exam until the New Year. Once again, God had other plans for me; on the 28th, I was able to take and pass the real estate exam. Every step to get here had gone in my favor—God had clear plans for me that I couldn’t ignore.
For as long as I can remember, my home has had an open-door policy, bringing in friends and family when they needed support and care. When facing life's transitional moments, my husband and I want to provide a safe space for our loved ones. With a bustling household, I love bringing people together, creating memories and making our home a safe haven for everyone.
With these core values, I always grappled with my work in direct sales. The field helped me build confidence and learn to network and connect with people from all walks of life. However, I struggled with the conflict between achieving targets and genuinely helping people.
Real estate offered a different direction, allowing me to provide value while protecting my clients’ best interests. All it took was working with my very first client to know this was the right path for me. Following God’s plan, we worked to remodel and sell our home. In 2021, we bought our current home, which has quickly transformed into a haven for our family. We are currently taking care of my mother-in-law, and my nieces, nephews, kids, and grandkids are always coming and going. We love that this home has become the perfect landing point for anyone in our family who needs it.
Aside from our personal transactions, I found real estate to be liberating! I love offering a quality service, all while knowing this is one of the best investments an individual or family can make. It is not just about the immediate satisfaction of owning a home, but about the long-term benefits of homeownership and building generational wealth.
This journey has been a rollercoaster ride of self-discovery, resilience and faith. Success isn't about monetary gains but about the satisfaction of guiding clients through their life's milestones with honesty, integrity and genuine care. Every day, I wake up knowing that my focus isn't merely on immediate results but on building relationships, offering support and providing a sanctuary of trust for everyone I serve. Real estate unexpectedly became my calling, merging my innate desire to care for others with a career that allows me to do just that.
As a relationship-oriented person, if I am not helping my clients, I am usually with friends and family. Bringing together my children, nieces, nephews, and grandkids brings me the greatest joy!
The younger kids in our family get excited when they come to my home and can mark their height on our door frame. It was a tradition started by the family before us, but we decided to keep it going. To me, it is the perfect symbol of what a home is. It is a space to grow and make memories together. When I am helping an individual or a family, I am always thinking about their best interests, wanting to ensure they find the perfect place to start their own new chapter. It is more than a home; it is a sanctuary for friends and family to gather and an investment in your future.
Transitioning into real estate was a learning curve; there are many agents who simply don't care. I made a vow to myself and my clients: no compromise on ethics and no gray areas, only transparency and fairness. My heart is always in the right place—your goals become my goals, and together, we will work to bring them to life! Even after the transaction is over, I remain a trusted partner on your homeownership journey, serving as your REALTOR® for life!
Sincerely,
Maria Lewis
